Dialup Setup: Setting Up Mac using OT/PPP 1.3

Configure MacTCP and DNS Settings as shown here:

Your userid will go in place of "example". Note: userid and password are case sensitive.
Your local dial up goes in place of the number in the example. You may wish to set your user mode to advanced. Find your dial up number HERE.

If you have any problems with speed or connectivity, you might try turning error correction off. Otherwise, have the two boxes checked as in the example above.

The DNS address will go in the Name Server address box. Use one or two DNS addresses closest to your geographic region. You can find the DNS numbers HERE.

You can then click on your ppp window's connect button and you should be dialed in.

Configure MacTCP and DNS Settings

1.Go to Apple Menu, Control Panel, and open MacTCP. Highlight PPP in the main window, then choose More.

2.Under "Obtain Address" choose Server. Under "IP Address" choose Class C.

3.Under "Domain Name Server Information"; enter your_servers_address (e.g. ICNetCo.net). as the first domain. Enter a period (.) in the 2nd and 3rd boxes.

4.Under "IP Address" enter DNS address 1 in the first two boxes. Enter DNS address 2 in the third box down.

5.Set the top boxes as the default, then choose OK and restart your Macintosh to put the changes you've made into effect.

Modem and General Setup in ConfigPPP

1.Go to Apple Menu, Control Panel, and open ConfigPPP.

2.For the "Port Name" choose Modem Port, set "Idle Timeout (minutes)" to 15, and "Echo Interval" to off.

3.Choose both "Hangup On Close" and "Quiet Mode" (closes connection without warning, or leave unchecked for warning).

4.At the bottom, choose the Config button. Enter the name of your PPP Server (e.g. Verio).

5.Set "Port Speed" to 38400 for 14.4 modems or 57600 for 28.8. Set "Flow Control" to CTS & RTS (DTR).

6.If you have a GlobalVillage modem, you'll usually be better off setting the flow control to CTS (ONLY). Mark "Tone Dial".

7.Enter the access phone number and a modem-init string, and set "Modem Connect Timeout" to 90 seconds.

8.Select the Authentication button, then enter your username in the Auth.ID field in lowercase.

9.You can enter your password also, but if you leave it blank you'll be asked for it at connection time anyway.

10.Choose OK, then choose Done. Configuration is now complete!

Next Step: Connect to ICNetCo

Establish a ICNetCo Connection

1.Go to Apple Menu, Control Panel, ConfigPPP, and select Open; or just open a MacTCP-based program.

2.You'll automatically be connected, and the upper left corner of the ConfigPPP screen will show PPP UP.

3.To disconnect, close down all your MacTCP-based applications, then open up ConfigPPP and choose Close.
